Co-written with Love Island music producer Tom Marlow, ‘Gordon Gekko’ is a high-octane house/dance anthem inspired by the 1987 cult film Wall Street and the viral TikTok hit “I’m Looking for a Man in Finance.” But instead of following the usual script, Cracknell turns it on its head—with a fierce feminist twist. Channelling the ruthless ambition of Michael Douglas’ infamous character through a female lens, she creates a sonic power play that’s as empowering as it is infectious.
“Last year we had that viral song, ‘I’m Looking for a Man in Finance’,” Cracknell explains. “I kept thinking—why is it always a man in finance? I wanted to flip the script. To show that women can be powerful and ambitious too. A boss b****.”
Sonically, ‘Gordon Gekko’ draws from the nostalgic energy of 80s synths while nodding to contemporary influences like Marina, Fred Again, and Raye. The result is a pulsating, retro-tinged banger that’s as at home on the dancefloor as it is on repeat in your headphones.
