PREMIERE: Gavin Conway’s ‘Throw A Stone’ is a throwback to classic Manchester rock

Living the dream, established DJ and music producer Gavin Conway now turns to his original ambition of singing to his crowd. His tenor range and skilful guitar playing give Gavin Conway a unique and memorable sound. Aiming for an atmosphere of the ’90s and 00’s with salutes to greats like The Charlatans and The Stone Roses, the drumming skills of Donal Bowens lend just the right vibe.

It opens on a similar vibe to Temple of Love from The Sisters Of Mercy. Pretty soon, though, it changes gear and delivers a groovy acoustic guitar rock anthem. The drums match a punching bass that elevates each beat as lyrics break from their bonds and soar into the upper mix. As the progression takes hold, the song rises and expands with an intricate mixture of tones and high-points that flex like rippling biceps. The composition never gets bored with a new edge taking the lead for each new section, a verse chorus formula hides behind expertly written evolutions and self-similarity.
