When we talk about music geniuses, many names come to mind, but there is one that stands out significantly and does not seem to be tackled by the traces of time. A famous music critic, Robert Christgau, classified Frank Sinatra as “the very best singer of the 20th century”. His popularity was only comparable to great names in music, such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, and very few others.

Who Was Frank Sinatra?

Francis Albert Sinatra was born on December 12th, 1915, in Hoboken (New Jersey) and died on May 14th, 1998, in Los Angeles (California). Known as Frank Sinatra, he was an American singer and actor, considered one of the most important figures of the 20th century and one of the most popular singers of all time, around the world. Through his records and live performances, he left a canonical legacy behind when it comes to male vocal performance in music. Sinatra is recognised as the first singer to make conscious use of the means of sound amplification in order to place his voice above the sound of the orchestra (dominating American popular music of the early 20th century) and to bring it closer to the intimacy of the listener’s ear. Throughout his professional career, Sinatra recorded more than 1,300 songs and participated in more than fifty films.

Music Genius Who Loved Games of Chance

Frank Sinatra was also a passionate gamer who happened to enjoy different types of games of chance and even claimed to own a casino. On the 12th of December 2001, the day he would have turned 86, Frank Sinatra was honoured with a new celebrity slot machine and was even said to be the icon that symbolises Las Vegas. Frank was very much into slots games. Therefore, it is not a surprise that today’s online slots games are becoming increasingly popular. For example, websites such as VegasSlotsOnline could be an excellent option if you are into online slots. They’ve got the Vintage Vegas. This slot game will transport you back to the days when Vegas was run by the mob and Frank Sinatra sang his heart out to a packed house. Enjoy the experience and the free spin bonuses, as well as the no deposit deals. This will give you extra chances to play and let you keep what you win. Moreover, Sinatra wrote and released the song “Luck Be a Lady,” which was released in 1965 but was originally written by Frank Loesser in 1950. The song tells a story of a gambler who is using the outcome of a game to determine whether or not he can save his relationship with his lover.

New York, New York

This famous song was composed by John Kander and Fred Ebb in 1997 and was initially created to be the main theme of Martin Scorsese’s film of the same name. In the film, the song was performed by Liza Minnelli, but both the film and the song failed to capture the audience´s attention. However, everything changed two years later, when Frank Sinatra adopted the song, taking it to another level. His marked personality, charisma, and his particular interpretation made “New York, New York” a true statement for all those self-confessed lovers of the city that never sleeps. The success of ‘New York, New York’ was such that it is included in “The 100 most representative songs of American cinema”, as well as it managed to become popular all over the globe.

Strangers in the Night

This song was composed in 1966 by the Croatian Ivo Robic and later adapted by Bert Kaempfert with lyrics written by Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. Kaempfert originally used it under the title “Beddy Bye” as part of the instrumental background for the movie “A Man Could Get Killed.” The song was initially offered to Melina Mercouri, who refused to sing it, with the thought that a man’s voice would be more in tune with the melody. After the rejection of Mercouri, the song was offered to Frank Sinatra under the title “Broken Guitar”. At first, he did not like the lyrics, which were then rewritten and renamed “Strangers in the Night.” The song was finally recorded by Sinatra on April 11, 1966, a month before the rest of the album. Nowadays, this is the song Frank Sinatra is most famous for.

These two songs along with many other Sinatra songs are said to have rewritten the history of music and forever changed the music scene of the 20th century.
