Isak’s Island Chats to Music Crowns Exclusively!

Music Crowns caught up with Isak’s Island to chat about their new album ‘‘Fallen Anchors on The Sea Bed.’

Please tell us about yourself in one sentence!

I am a songwriter and musician who currently is living just outside Oslo in a boat.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I’m quite influenced by a lot of 60s and 70s songwriters. But I also love poets like Walt Whitman, David Whyte and Mary Oliver, who inspire my writing.

If you could play a gig or make a record with anyone in the world, dead or alive who would it be and why?

I would live to make a record with George Martin.

What are your plans for 2023?

I’ll be playing a few shows and promoting the album, but I’m also already working on new music that will become a new album.

Anything else our readers here in the UK need to know about you and your new album?

The cover of the vinyl edition in hand printed using wood cut, and it’s possible to order it on my website isaksisland.com!

Thank you for taking the time to chat to us.

Isak’s Island’s album ‘Fallen Anchors on The Sea Bed’ was released 26th May.

Check out this beautiful acoustic video of the track ‘Winter, the Summer of the Soul’ taken from the brand new album:

“Fallen Anchors on The Sea Bed” is his second album. Many songs deal with longing and acceptance of hope as part of the human condition, often accompanied by metaphors and imagery of the sea and nautic travel. This also is reflected in the music with its gentle, swaying, and ever-moving rhythms and melodies in the acoustic guitar, voices, and string arrangements. Shortly after the album’s completion, Aksel and Brooke Sharkey bought a boat to live on and are now swaying away in Oslo, Norway.

“I wanted to make a simple singer-songwriter album where the writing would be the focal point. It was important that the songs could be performed simply with guitar and singing in one take to make the recording process as simple as possible. I also wanted to incorporate more poetic writing into my songwriting and focus more on the text. I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to work with outstanding musicians on this album. They had breathed life into the songs and transformed them in a way I couldn’t imagine when I wrote them.”
