Album Review: Inky Ovine – Jas Patrick

Lack of promotion plus limited time in a hired studio stood in the way of success with Jas Patrick’s previous records and he was determined that his future projects won’t suffer the same fate. It took two years to save up and get together equipment for his studio, before producing tracks for his latest album, “Inky Ovine”.

His third project features earthy rock soundscapes with influences of British rock and hints of Americana and blues. Most of these elements are featured in,” Harpy”. The grittiest guitar work introduces the EP, piercing right through the system.

Title track, “Inky Ovine” sends further shock waves to the system with flashes of reggae working along the aggressive guitars, creating that go-crazy, hell raising rock. The out of control guitar takes a break, allowing a sweet and serene fusion of folk and rock in fourth effort, ” Little Bug”.

Concluding track, “Snow Day” allows the blues to make a return, that’s much lighter and toe tapping with the guitar riffs becoming real funky. Patrick’s soulful-than-ever vocals are most welcomed in this piece as it truly hit the spot.

It’s almost inconceivable that one guy wrote and performed almost all the instruments on this EP; this collection sounds no different to a million dollar project…have a listen for yourself.
