There’s something undeniably magical about the simplicity of songwriting taken back to basics. For his second album, ‘Skeletons’, songwriter Alexander Wolfe did just that, creating a fantastic full album of simple, acoustic songs. For his next trick though, he has gone one better.
New album ‘From the Shallows’ sees that same songwriting skill dedicated to a much larger canvas, taking in multiple instruments and styles to build on the old vocal/guitar combo. The single ‘Trick of the Light’ (above) is just the tip of the iceberg, with Wolfe seeming to revel in the relative freedom of so many instruments.
‘From the Shallows’ is out now, and if it is as rewarding as it deserves to be it will continue Wolfe’s progress in the independent scene. His folky style has won him fans on both sides of the world, and it would be great if this fantastic album could win him even more.
