Bronwen Lewis

The 19-year-old first note dazzled judges of the BBC talent show with her powerful rendition of Fields of Gold that she had translated into Welsh, however with a performances on par with Jaz Ellington’s Ordinary People blind audition for immediately setting a mood she was unable to get any judges to turn around.

Bronwen Lewis is 19 years old and comes from a large close knit family who are all involved in music. Her father, grandfather and uncle are all a part of the same male voice choir, Onllwyn Male Voice Choir. Her grandmother has been in choirs all her life, and her mother and aunty have been a part of choirs also. She has one younger brother and sister; her brother is also musical and has a keen interest in art.

She plays piano, ukulele and guitar and writes her own songs in both English and Welsh. She has always translated popular English language songs into Welsh as she feels that it combines two audiences and doesn’t alienate anyone. The language is also so beautiful she feels it needs to be publicised more, and her dream is to have Welsh played on National and International radio stations.

Bronwen really did bring her A game to the audition, pitch was great, tone was beautiful and she was able to tell a story whether the audience could translate the Welsh, I was personally moved.  Bronwen has an incredible pure tone, a tone that is extremely hard to learn and deliver, therefore naturally she has this and it can be developed, her piano ability compliments her vocal and you can picture her on stage with a ‘Birdy’ style set and band. Bronwen really has a solid foundation if she is still wanting music to be her career.

Do you think Bronwen Lewis should have gone through?
