With an album on the way in the new year, Jess Thristan is a very exciting songwriter to get on board with. Working with the likes of Steve Crisanthou (Corinne Bailey-Rae, Eliza Dolittle) and Jonny Wright (Foxes, Becky Hill), she crafts delightful songs which can be either hopeful and upbeat or thought-provoking, all the while performing with an inherently brilliant vocal which can only come from natural talent.
She has a knack of belting out powerful melodies without becoming overbearing, while her quieter moments hint at a voice which is close to breaking point but controlled enough to never stray from the key.
That skill set has today been unveiled with a new cover single, taking on The Beatles’ ‘From Me To You’. The track, which is to be the only cover version on the album, showcases perfectly the vocal talent Jess Thristan has in spades. It’s an interesting choice – promoting a proven songwriter’s debut album with a cover version – but it’s hard to argue with this level of performance.
