“Please excuse my dreaming ‘cause it’s a little big,” Em Weeks belts out in one of her favorite songs, Ambitions. She wrote that song at just fifteen.

Weeks, now eighteen-years-old, has already packed more music-filled experiences into her life than most. She has attended summer song-writing programs at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, as well as the Grammy Foundation Music Program in New York City (she was chosen to be one of only fifteen songwriters included in the program). Em has also worked as a co-writer at the Namaste Studio in Atlanta (her hometown).

Em has a passion for songwriting. “My songs tell stories. I want them to be relatable and easy to listen to, but not cliché. I’m a big fan of showing and not telling; using descriptive new ways to portray age old stories and emotions,” Weeks says.

Weeks’ strength with words and ability to expose her most vulnerable emotions in a rhythmic way is what drives her success as a songwriter. She also has a “heart that’s ripping from the seams”* which makes her songs speak more boldly than most writers her age. It’s Em’s heart that leads her work and the way she responds to her world. During her junior year of high school, Weeks raised over $30,000 for Imba Means Sing, a documentary about the award-winning African Children’s Choir. Em’s dream is to use her songwriting platform to create more awareness and positive social change in her community and around the world.

Em Weeks is currently in her senior year of high school, enjoying a focus on songwriting at Idyllwild Arts Academy in California. She has recently recorded with artists such as Nick Chahwala and Prisca Strother.

When not writing songs, Em loves to cook farm fresh food and go to concerts with her friends… but her all time favorite way to spend her time is in the studio putting words to paper with great music in her head.
