Mikhail Jae Dash

In a field where many struggle to find their identity, there are others that emerge in full command of their craft, their identity and their music. Jae Dash fits firmly in the latter category. His new tape, Shoot for the Stars vol. 1, is a captivating debut that heralds the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent, one whose music feels familiar, while striking out on its own domain.

Jae grew up in Houston, Texas with a mother and two siblings. Jae learned of his passion for music at a young age. Recalling an elementary school experience he explains, “I was sent home for reciting lyrics to Biggie’s ‘Gimme the Loot’, and it took my interest in music, especially the power of words, to another level. I began to write poems & lyrics after that.”

Fast forward to high school. Jae began to record and gain experience in songwriting as well as business. Jae Dash created a clothing line called Fresh2Death Apparel that led him in direct contact with Houston area hip-hop standouts. Making custom clothing for artists like Scarface, Mike Dean, Kanye West, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Trae the Truth, & more, Jae Dash was immersed in the world, while developing as an artist himself. Now recording in earnest, taking influence from anywhere from the iconic Beatles to local legend DJ Screw and using them to shape his own style. “I grew up with a lot of everything,” Jae explains, “My brothers used to play music from all over but it always had that boom in it. I’m most comfortable with that smooth-street style, but I don’t discriminate, I love it all.”

With an emphasis on lyrics and production that “boom”; Shoot for the Stars vol. 1 was created to showcase the range and talent of the startup artist. From the ever so subtle, but powerful lyrics on the intro track to the nostalgic beat abusing style on tracks like “Killer in the Room” & “Who is it”, Jae appreciate the space given to create it. He reflects, ” In my first project, notoriety or not, I want my thoughts out here. I want people to shoot for the top. Make a goal and then go get it. I’m currently in that process, that what makes its authentic and hopefully motivational.”

Jae is currently working on a debut album. The Fresh2Death brand gaining momentum Jae brings a complete package to the industry. “Everything is gaining momentum,” Jae says. “I’m excited, working with a lot of people behind the scenes to deliver high quality rap, something I feel is hard to come by these days.” The album, yet to be named, will be a culmination of where he’s been and where he’s going, and one that is sure to win him the notoriety that is demanded by the depth and quality of his songs.
