Following the recent release of his album ‘Change of Heart’, ex-Holby City star Jules Knight (known on the show as Dr Harry Tressler) is now back once again with new single ‘It’s Only Life’.
An original pop track which could easily fill the gap left since the departure of Westlife from the scene, the single is a medium tempo pop tune which sees Knight on great, understated form. The album as a whole has plenty of areas where he showcases his full range and classical training, but this song strips all that back to show a different side to the vocalist.
Here, the vocal lines are clean, slick and smooth, keeping vibrato to a relative minimum and showing real versatility. At times, the music swells and grows, but the vocal stays level, not getting carried away and remaining consistent throughout. It’s a common mistake for classical singers to sing pop in that style, but in shying away from it Jules Knight has shown with this single that he can adapt to the subtlety of each track as it comes.
