I’ve said many times on the pages on this website that pop music is often misunderstood, particularly when it comes to the dance-pop genre. People think it’s all too easy to knock together a beat, a couple of loops and a vocal line and call it a song.

However, the genre is perhaps one of the hardest to get right, because the songs have to do one vital thing – make you want to dance. And this isn’t an easy target.

That’s why producers like Francis Groove demand respect. New single ‘Alright (Take My Hand)’ (iTunes) is out now and manages to get the listener moving while delivering a song with lyrical meaning. It helps that the vocal is supplied by a singer called Tony G whose honeyed tones lend a lot of quality too.

This is really enjoyable stuff.
