‘Vs.’ is a rock project that was started in a small room in NY City influenced by the 80s, topped with classical, pop and hip hop elements.
Born and raised in Brussels, Belgium – creator, Aramis Alexander, now resides in New York and presents this new piece of work.
“I’ve always been hearing these songs and melodies in my head, so one day I set out to find the best way to turn these words, ideas and sounds into actual songs, fortunately for me, technology got better and cheaper as the years went on, so I bought the gear and computers that were available at the time, knew nothing about producing, did lots of research, learned the basics of music making.”
Today Aramis has recorded/produced some 30 songs with main influences are being 80s rock and pop, but can really encounter anything from classical to heavy-metal.
I chose the name/brand/logo ‘Vs.’ (against, opposing, rebel), for the simple reason that I realised that the way I’m bringing this project about is different than what you would expect on a music industry POV, for example, we won’t do any live performances in the beginning, instead we will try and give you a video for every song we’ll launch.
‘I Don’t Wanna Be a Celebrity’ is the introduction song and video for this new upcoming project.
Produced on a laptop, with a close to zero budget, the song contemplates the darker aspects of being ‘famous’.
In the song, founder, Aramis Alexander sings as if he’s telling a woman of the wrongs she did or does by him, in fact, she is the representation of today’s mass media who will make and break you as long as it’s profitable. Also, a certain type of fan and groupies, ready to do anything at the point that their love, fascination, obsession could become lethal!
The band is still in the making, working on 3 to 4 members, so the band you will see in the first video (I Don’t Wanna Be a Celebrity) is for entertainment purposes.
‘UNLEASHED’ is the name of Vs. first album, which is more a movement, a mindset as tracks will be introduced one or two at the time. The name came about from the fact that, from an early age, Aramis had always been under the dependence of either individuals or situations – from having parents wanting the best for him, to working under strict contracts, he feels he was never truly able to express let alone experience what he always knew was in him.
Hence, ‘UNLEASHED’, truly representing where he is today.
