Young cancer surviver doesn’t let technical problems stop her singing

Calysta Bevier was diagnosed with dysgerminoma, which is a rare form of ovarian cancer, at the age of 15. After undergoing treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy, and numerous hospital stays she is thankfully now in remission.

At an Ovarian Cancer Walk, Calysta got up on stage in the rain to sing ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten. During the song, the track starts to skip, making it difficult for Calysta to keep singing. However, she doesn’t let this deter her in the slightest. Instead, she asks for the track to be stopped and keeps singing without the backing track. The emotional performance comes to an end as the 16-year-old is overwhelmed by the reaction of the crowd who clap along.

The track is known for its powerful lyrics about staying strong and being determined to succeed. Calysta does the song justice by personifying the lyrics through her performance and her journey.

Calysta, from Ohio, is a normal teenager who enjoys fashion and music. She has appeared on shows such as Ellen and Season 11 of America’s Got Talent in which she reached the semi-finals. She is now dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and specifically ovarian cancer.
