YouTube reveals most-viewed music videos of 2019 so far

YouTube has released its Top 10 most viewed music videos of the year so far, and Latin-pop reigns supreme.

With a viewership boasting two-billion users a month, it appears a large majority of the public are listening to Latin-pop as a preference.

The figures show the genre makes up half of the Top 10, with Daddy Yankee’s ‘Con Calma’ top of the list with an impressive 1.16 billion views. In fact, Puerto Rico occupies the top two positions, with Anuel AA trailing by a considerable 400 million views in second place.

Further down the list, Rosalia comes in fourth with ‘Con Altura’, Maluma finishes in seventh with HP, and ending the list in tenth is Nicky Jam X Ozuna.

Ariana Grande stands as the lone act to contain lyrics solely in the English language, with the remainder of the Top 10 going to popular South Korean acts and Indian artists.

K-pop’s rise to the top of the charts has been undeniable this year and is represented here by Blackpink’s ‘Kill My Love’ and the BTS/Halsey collaboration ‘Boy With Love’.

Elsewhere the Hindi viral superstar Dhvani Bhanushali’s smash ‘Vaaste Song’ racked up 50 million views in its first week.

Though Britain didn’t see any stars crack the Top 10, Sam Smith came agonisingly close at 11^th with his hit ‘Dancing with a stranger’ and claiming the most views out of any British artist. Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’ isn’t far behind in 12^th place, following the mega-success of her debut album When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?
