UK Afrobeats newcomer KVNGS makes statement with ‘OPOR’

Kvngs is a new UK Afrobeats artist who was raised in both London and Nigeria so his music has a distinct feel of both scenes. His new single ‘Opor’ has received plays from Charlie Sloth on his Apple Music 1 show and has also been added to official Spotify playlists (New Music Friday Naija and Ghana and Bubblin’) as well as a range of official Apple Music playlists.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Ice Prince, Chocolate City and Burna Boy – Kvngs is a young artist with one foot in London, and the other in West Africa. This musical duality is reflected in his Afrowave sound which mixes elements of Afropop, Afrobeats, RnB and UK Rap/Drill.

Born in Nigeria, he was raised and educated in both there in Ibadan Akobo and in London. As a teen he began to immerse himself in the rich musical culture and history of both areas, soaking in sounds from the UK such as grime as well as Nigeria’s thriving Afrobeats and Afro-Pop scenes.

Now establishing himself as a one to watch in the UK, Kvngs makes his mark on the game with this party banger. Musically ‘Opor’ also interestingly has hints of acid jazz, as electric pianos and horn flourishes add to the summery vibe. Speaking about the track, Kvngs says:

“This track represents a time in my life where I’m proving to myself and everyone else that I’m not just an artist but more (OPOR)”
