Behind The Scenes Of Dangerouz’s ‘The Status Quo EP’

dangerouz

Texan DJ/producer, Jesse Garza AKA Dangerouz, is a man who needs very little introduction. The EDM star has been releasing speaker-shattering hits since he appeared on the scene in 2011. His Electro and Future House works, often peppered with elements of Drum & Bass or Indie Dance have seen labels like Pop Rox Muzik, Grimey Grooves Records and Straight Up! Music all clamouring for his signature, with A-list DJ’s across the globe dropping his tracks at some of the biggest venues and festivals around. Having tracks charted in Beatport Top 100 lists and carving a name for himself as an increasingly in-demand DJ have only added to Dangerouz’s soaring reputation.

His latest release, ‘The Status Quo EP’, which came out on August 16th, saw Dangerouz team back up with another renowned label, WoNKed, whom he released the epic ‘Purist’ hit with back in May last year. We caught up with Dangerouz to get to know him a little better and find out more about this latest 3 track killer.

Hi Dangerouz, thanks for taking time to answer these few questions. For those who aren’t familiar with you, can you tell us a bit out yourself?
What’s up everyone I am Dangerouz. Most people know me for my tracks ‘Candyman’ ‘Accomplice’ & ‘Faded’.

How would you describe a typical Dangerouz release using only five words?
Bass mods and cool synths.

You have recently just released your newest EP ‘The Status Quo EP’. How did the idea for the record come about?
I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and into Progressive House. I fired up FL and got to work on something that was going to cater more to a modern EDM crowd.

You decided to release ‘The Status Quo EP’ on WoNKed Records. What were your reasons for doing so?
I really wanted to release with WoNKed again since it had been a while since ‘The Purist’. I went ahead and sent Daniel over at WoNKed a demo and he took interest in the tracks. Everything worked out nice.

Can you tell us a bit about your workflow when producing ‘The Status Quo EP’?
The workflow for this project was immense. I don’t think I have worked on such a challenging EP. The mixdown alone for ‘Stasis’ took me 2 weeks. I really took time to get it just right. This is very different music compared to some of the Prog I have heard lately. I worked to make it as unique as possible.

What do you enjoy the most about producing? Programming drums, writing melodies?
The melodies for this were pretty challenging ; I really enjoyed tracking this particular project

Do you mix and master your own productions or do you get help from an engineer?
Every mix was done by me but I had Nina Wilde master most of this project.

How long did it take to produce the records?
Roughly one month I would say.

Will you be doing a production walkthrough of the track?
Maybe soon!

Where did you get your inspiration from when producing the EP?
I can’t even remember now to be honest. This EP took some serious work and I can’t recall why or how I got inspired for this.

Can we expect a follow up release to ‘The Status Quo EP’ in a similar style on WoNKed Records?
Maybe sometime in the near future!

What can we expect in terms of future releases and plans from Dangerouz?
My schedule is getting crazy – I have a few originals planned for later but I currently have a lot of pending projects. Expect more fire soon!
