EDUKE’S BIO

“If my music can inspire or uplift a few people in the world, then my job is done.”

A mother’s love and influence know no bounds and that’s certainly been true in the life of Miami-based artist, producer, and DJ EDUKE (Vahid N’Dobe.) Born and raised in Kumba, Cameroon, the artist was weaned on his mother’s African spirituals being sung over him, developing a deep appreciation for the power of music and spirituality.

“As a child, I was surrounded by a lot of music and for me, music was a very spiritual experience,” shares the artist. “It feels pretty much the same today. When I’m creating music I feel closest to God.”

EDUKE built upon that inspiration and as a teenager honed his skills on his first guitar and Casio keyboard while also traveling as a member of the West African international music group, Light of Unity, touring to help promote principles of world peace and global solidarity. As time progressed, the artist took to the studio, independently releasing several records through his own imprint, StrongCity Music Group, before jumpstarting his own music production and concert promotion company, CAiALA, focusing on electronic and tropical music.

But it was in 2014 that the artist’s life took a dramatic turn as he was forced to watch his mother fight a losing battle with endometrial cancer.

“During this time, music was a refuge, music was therapy, music was a haven and it dawned on me that life is too short to be mundane when it can be spent on something much bigger than one’s self such as serving humanity with a tool as powerful as music…We all were born with a message. We all have something to say. Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to accomplish this through crafting songs and melody. I feel blessed to have that unique opportunity.”

Seizing that opportunity, the now Miami-based artist and entrepreneur looked to his surroundings, home of the famous UltraMusic Festival and home to some of the biggest dance music events worldwide, and he made the decision to launch his professional career as a DJ and producer. And drawing on a plethora of musical influences ranging from Above & Beyond, Hardwell, Calvin Harris, Tiesto, and more, EDUKE has built a sound that is truly all his own, offering up a wall of edgy, danceable sounds while framing them with lyrics that flow with hope and positivity.

That message of hope is one that sets the artist’s music apart, as he seeks to offer up intelligent thoughts on issues like climate change, world peace, and overcoming adversity while also speaking to topics of love and happiness. It’s a mentality that EDUKE lives out through his committed Baha’i faith and through his life as a husband and father, constantly seeking the betterment of others.

“My goal is to serve humanity through the gift of music,” he explains. “Fame and fortune is not what motivates us. It’s about sharing the gift of music and enriching the spirit of man. Our reason to be alive is to serve others.”

On his self-titled album, a name borrowed from his late mother to pay homage to her, EDUKE blends together those hopeful lyrics with a musical mix mastered by multi GRAMMY Award winner Tom Coyne that dabbles in Electronic, Synth Pop, EDM, and more. With tracks like “Beautiful Girl,” inspired by the connection between his daughter and mother in love and beauty and the heart wrenching “Take Care,” penned after his wife was diagnosed with cancer shortly after the loss of his mother, EDUKE looks into the darker parts of life and consistently finds the silver linings.

And that’s exactly what you’ll find too as you delve into the rich sounds of EDUKE and discover his music for yourself. Packed with plenty of danceable jams and lyrics that speak to something more than the superficial, EDUKE is embracing the world with his diverse sound and invites you to join in the party.
