Not Today Talk Artwork

With a band name inspired by a line in Toy Story, it’s evident that the quintet are all about looking on the brighter side of life. Sophomore E.P, Headway, is a musical testament to that fact, its 5 tracks bubbling with bright, upbeat effervescence. “When it comes down to it, pop punk is an absolute blast to play,” says vocalist Alex, his PMA unshaken by the crowded state of the UK pop punk community; “The scene might be a little saturated, but we try to make sure that our music isn’t paint by numbers pop punk and has its own character”. Now the band discuss how the artwork for their recently released EP came about…

Not Today Artwork

Headway itself is something we’ve been working on for quite some time. With it being our second EP, we decided that everything needed to be improved this time round: the song writing, the branding and even the packaging. We didn’t want your run of the mill cover and wanted to stand out from the crowd. So we approached Samuel Hague (Samuel Hague Illustrations) as he’s a really talented dude and we’ve always been a fan of his hand drawn designs.

The initial idea was to have “boring” and unpleasant items surrounding the borders of the planet (such as work related item, pollution, death etc) and have really enjoyable items in the middle of the planet (e.g. roller coasters and of course, pizza…). This reflects the theme of the EP, which is really all about positivity and doing what you want to do. We believe that this artwork really conveys this. There may be a load of shit happening in life, but if you’ve got to find the positives, no matter how trivial.

Oh, final thing! The guy on the roller coaster with the rabbit is a throwback to our debut EP “Infinity” which featured the same thing… who said we couldn’t shout out ourselves?!
