EP REVIEW: Sam Walwyn – ‘How Would I Know’

Throughout the last few months, emerging singer and songwriter Sam Walwyn has been establishing himself with a wave of bright and euphoric pop-rock gems. Singles such as ‘First Place’, ‘Littered Sense Of You’ and ‘Mama Plum’ have given the newcomer a rich and vibrant aesthetic that many have quickly locked onto since his arrival. And after plenty of buzz and acclaim, he now delivers his eagerly-anticipated new EP ‘How Would I Know’, a collection brimming with uplifting potential.

While Walwyn isn’t one to push the envelope very often, ‘How Would I Know’ showcases a wonderfully proficient level of songwriting that shows us what he does, he does well. His brilliantly distinctive voice acts as a malleable bellwether that can be moulded around almost any aesthetic and deliver a warm and enticing croon as a result. The sweet and sweeping demeanour of his presence transcends the bold and pulsing production to create a firm and vivid listen that captures bags of passionate soul with every step he takes.

Things may still be in their infancy for Sam Walwyn, but on ‘How Would I Know’, he is displaying the wisdom of an extremely well-rounded artist. There is a raw and heartfelt drive behind each of these songs, allowing them to truly breathe and soar with an effortless finesse throughout.
