Mac DeMarco announces new album This Old Dog and shares two new songs

Mac DeMarco has just announced his new album titled This Old Dog and has shared two new songs from the forthcoming record.

This Old Dog follows DeMarco’s last mini-album, Another One, and is set for release on 5 May 2017. The Salad Days singer has unveiled two of the leading tracks from the forthcoming LP – the title track, ‘This Old Dog’ and the additional ‘My Old Man’.

The two new offerings are the introductory tracks to the new album and “show a new sonic direction and a glimpse into the very personal nature of this record”.

After moving to Los Angeles from Queens, New York, DeMarco worked mainly on finishing the album. The singer has also stated that moving to a new city was more time consuming than he had hoped.

I demoed a full album, and as I was moving to the West Coast I thought I’d get to finishing it quickly,” said DeMarco. “But then I realized that moving to a new city, and starting a new life takes time. Usually, I just write, record, and put it out; no problem. But this time, I wrote them and they sat. When that happens, you really get to know the songs. It was a different vibe.

DeMarco then disclosed that the production of the new album differed slightly from his previous records. He stated, “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.

Mac DeMarco is set to grace the stage at Brixton’s O2 Academy for two London shows this year taking place on 30 May and 31 May. DeMarco has also announced he will be playing at Newcastle Academy on 29th August and Edinburgh Usher hall, 30th August.
