Swedish innovation finds itself in Ginko Bugs

One of the most interesting artists to watch out of Sweden is Stockholm-based musician Erik Åredal, the brain behind the fascinating act Ginko Bugs. With previous work as a multi-piece band, Ginko Biloba, Åredal conceptualized Ginko Bugs as a response to much success in the 90s and early 2000s. Now, as a solo act with a fictitious backstory (Lieutenant Bo Biloba & Crew), he releases infectious hits that toe the line between The Beatles and modern pop rock.

Ginko Bugs’ latest offering is the anthemic “My Eyelash Girl,” which has received praise from both fans and press. It is described as, “an accessible sound that harkens to classic bands (notes of The Beatles’ sonics and Bowie-esque vocals float around), with sonic complexity.”

Åredal brings life to the music of yesterday, opening it up to new audiences and making it just as catchy as ever. His tracks are guitar-forward, and his work with other musicians helps to build the collaborative effort of Ginko Bugs. “C’mon baby,/ You’re my eyelash girl” – We’ll have that hook stuck in our heads for weeks!
