VVEST talks about his first release of 2022, Bad Move Baby: “I want to be timeless”

American East Coast artist and producer, VVEST, has blessed us all with his first track of 2022; Bad Move Baby, a summery and groovy tune with some infectious saxophone and a banger of a chorus. VVEST is incredibly prolific and self-sufficient. He released a whopping three albums last year, all on his own record label, Tarte Empire. The trend has continued as he also wrote, recorded and engineered this new track, released on his own label yet again.

This song represents some experimentation and conscious diversion from his usual style of rap and hip-hop. Whilst there are still some sprinkles of rap and hip-hop on this tune, it’s much less obvious than on his previous releases. On Bad Move Baby, he’s ditched the hi-hats and 808s, and instead gone down the route of live instruments.

VVEST said: “I’m playing most of the instruments you hear in the track, including doubling and sampling my vocals. The tambourine at the beginning of the song is played by me as well. I got my friend Frankie IV to play saxophone. The reason for this is that I was so tired of every song that’s out sounding the same. Literally. I figured if I’m gonna stand out, I have to be different. I kept that in mind when producing the record.

“In terms of writing the record, I made sure to not use cuss words. I wanted people of all ages to be able to enjoy my song. None of the timeless records in the world have cuss words in them. And I want to be timeless.”
