Experimental pop artist xo purp is doing more than what the usual 16-year old is capable of. Writing and releasing songs from last year, he has since then gained hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify as well as editorial support on Fresh Finds Pop, with his unique and intoxicating pop sound.
Already focusing on the deeper meaning behind songwriting, his new single ‘nova’ further exemplifies the steps he’s taking to become a prolific all encompassing artist to invest in. Switching between auto tuned vocal effects and groovy bassline, xo purp easily finds a melody that sticks alongside some clever production. Growing up in a musical family in New York City, it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a lot more of xo purp over the coming years.
Speaking on ‘nova’, he says that “‘nova’ is a song about a girl called nova who falls in love with a guy but then gets into a bad set of circumstances. The 2nd part of the song where she gets lost in the forest is both literal and symbolic in the story. I usually do story songs from a male perspective so I wanted to switch things up.”
