Bartoven Ft. Jewels – London Eyes

Bartoven - London Eyes

Introducing a new innovative style of UK rap with his melodic approach to production and quirky-truth telling lyrics, Lewisham born and bred artist Bartoven continues to carve a distinctive musical style and lane for himself. Garnering his name from the great composer Ludwig Van Beethoven intertwined with the concept of writing ‘bars ’, Chimezie Emenike became Bartoven where in which his journey into building a strong brand and fan base began.

Starting his journey, Bartoven took to writing songs at the tender age of 8, he began recording them on Poundland microphones and uploading these demos to MySpace to showcase his talents. This tenacity and ever growing passion to make music soon developed into mixtapes (Poet’s Conscience, Grime Suspect, Poetic Justice), EPs (Amen Ra II, Amen Ra III, No Excuses, I am not Road). Several well received music videos, a One To Watch feature in RWD magazine and working with artists A*M*E , Tinchy Stryder and Tinie Tempah. Also transferring his talents to the stage, Bartoven has performed at such prestigious events and venues such as Somerset House supporting N Dubz, Professor Green and Aloe Blacc. Also Lovebox Festival and The Roundhouse where he supported Griminal and Skepta. These are just a number of the many achievements throughout this 19 year old’s career.

Taking his inspiration from his surroundings and moguls such as Jay Z and Nas, Bartoven’s drive for more than just being a local rapper drove him to push boundaries within himself and his music. ‘The main aim of my sound is take everybody on a journey. A lot of people didn’t have to grow up around drug abusers, drunkards, teenage mothers and gangsters, but the mere fact that I have and yet I still don’t fall into any of these categories has made me a voluntary messenger’.

Now under the eye of many of the industry through his previous work, Bartoven seizes this new found attention taking the next step in his career to launch his project, The Raggedy Tape. In true Bartoven style he uses his alternative production and larger than life approach to the mic to deliver a, in his words, ‘Raggedy mixtape – which means telling the truth the way it is, in a raw and uncut fashion’.

Not only building his brand around music, Bartoven also independently designs and sells his own merchandise which is another contribution to this forward thinking artist’s plan for dominance over an already saturated scene.

With his career coming into its own Bartoven’s growingly contemporary brand building ideas, clever lyrical concepts and fresh approach to working with and against the norm of popular music. Continues to create the foundations for a long-standing career because as he says ‘I am working smart and being different which is better than working hard and being generic’.

Taking 5 months to make the tape, it follows Bartoven into the next phase of his career. With development deals being offered and the growing industry pressure to pick a lane and label, Bartoven pushes through the pressure to create an entertaining, truthful and must-listen mixtape.
