Released last month, ‘Human, Too Human’ is a brand new EP from Chris Hornsby – a folk singer songwriter from the UK who specialises in building his tracks from the ground up. It’s an approach that allows him to bring a real, earthy approach to the roots genre, which (according to reports) is very important to the man himself.

Thankfully for Hornsby, there’s nobody else to argue the point with him. Not only are all the songs written by him, they are also recorded, produced and PLAYED exclusively by him. Over the five tracks, Hornsby takes responsibility for no less than 15 instruments. It’s an admirable approach, not only from a talent standpoint but also because – if the songs don’t work – there’s nobody else to hide behind.

It’s a good thing then that there’s no need to hide. These folky ditties are sweet natured, deceptively simple but unconventional. With the ultimate freedom to play with his creations, Chris Hornsby has chosen five songs to whip into shape – some conventional, some less so – to work as a very good introduction to his lilting style.
