DJ and production duo Impera joined forces in 2014 and are planning to take over the electronic music world with their own twist of EDM and Progressive House.
Two brothers from Istanbul, Turkey, the guys behind the Impera stagename showed an interest in music at a very young age and have since run successful solo careers, before teaming up just a year ago.
Now spending time in New York, Impera are expanding their reach and are set to embark on a journey that should take them to the very top of the Dance music food-chain.
We’ve caught up with the guys for a chat about how they’ve got into music and how they’re planning to progress in the months ahead.
First off, introduce yourselves. Who are you? Where are you from? What do you do?
We are two brothers from Istanbul, Turkey, who studied engineering at school and worked in different fields, until we decided to follow our love of music and devote our time fully to producing. Music has been a part of our lives since we were little kids, we even used to sleep listening to music on our walkmans. We love to travel and listen to DJs around the world.

Since we were in elementary school, listening to music was something we enjoyed. We first started DJing for friends just for fun, and always added our own touches to the songs. We then thought why don’t we try making our own mixes? which soon we discovered was something we loved doing and playing for our friends at parties. We hooked up with a couple of other local producers and spent all our time making our own music.
When did you first fall in love with music?
Since we were kids, we always felt the need to share the music we enjoyed with as many people as possible, and DJing seemed like the perfect way to do this. Music felt like something that was just too good to keep to ourselves and not share.
When did you first notice electronic music?
We grew up listening to different types of music, whether it was Rock, Jazz, Techno or Pop. We developed an interest in electronic music when Tiesto visited Istanbul for a show. When we saw the effect he had on the crowd and the way people responded, we were hooked. We experienced an incredible rush that night and music was never the same for us again.
When did you first step into the creative world as a DJ/Producer?
We started at the very beginning of our career remixing other known DJs songs and then step by step we moved into producing our own mixes.
What inspired you to start?
The rush we got when we listened to the infectious beats of electronic music inspired us to make our own.
What came first DJing or production?
We started DJing to feel the positive energy from the crowds we played our songs for.
How long have you been actively making music?
We’ve been making our own music since 2008.
Are you trained musicians before this venture?
We are self-taught producers who learned by practicing and working with other DJs.
Who are the most influential people in your creative lives?
There are many different DJs and producers who have influenced us throughout our musical journey. The crowds who come to listen to us are our biggest influence as they give us our energy and creativity.
Top 5 DJs of all time and why?
Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, Tiesto, Fatboy Slim and Chemical Brothers. They all brought different sounds to electronic music in different times.
Your number one chill out spot in the world?
New York is our favorite spot to go chill and listen to good music.
What is your musical dream?
We want to achieve global success as DJs. Our plan is to keep making music and sharing our beats at international music festivals.
Proudest moment of your musical careers?
One of the best moments we’ve had in our careers so far was when we heard our song being played on the radio.
How do you describe the ‘Impera’ sound?
We don’t like to be categorized into a specific music genre, we play music we like, and make music that makes us feel good.
What genres do you gravitate towards?
We are into all types of music, and have influences ranging from local sounds to internationally known top DJs.
What are your plans for 2015?
We want to share our music with more and more people and become bigger and better, and play all around the world. We want to experience as much as possible the energy of the crowds that come to listen to our music.
Tell us more about your production setup and workflow
We used our knowledge as engineers to setup our own gear in an effective way so that two people can create music at the same time and make different sounds.
What is your favourite production software and why?
We are currently running Apple iMac and Macbook Pro with Logic Pro X, Sylenth1 is our favorite software right now because it has great sounds and is one of the best.
Best film of all time?
Of course The Godfather.
Best album of all time?
The Prodigy – The Fat of the Land
Ibiza or Miami?
Love both crowds, no way to choose between them.
If you could play B2B with any DJ in the world – who would it be and why?
Tiesto, since then we’d know we made it!!
