Introducing: Rezone

Not by any means a new face to the global electronic music circuit – but no doubt a name with his best still to come – Rezone has been carving out a reputation as somewhat of an underground hero when it comes to new and forward thinking dance floor detonators. Haling from Russia and adopted by Holland – Rezone is moving up the ranks as quick as anyone in the business and he’s relying on nothing more than a seriously high calibre production sound. The Producer/DJ has already racked up releases on some of the world’s leading imprints and is pushing the second half of 2015 to the limit.

We had a sit down with Rezone to talk about him, his roots, his music and what he’s got penned in to keep us engaged after the summer season fades away.

Hey Rezone, how are you and what are you up to at the moment?

Hi, I’m fine, thanks! Just came back home from the last gig at Ges Fest, it’s one of the biggest open airs in Russia. Played there with Proxy (mau5trap, Turbo), Richard Durand (Armada, Magik Muzik), Juicytrax (Wolv, Spinnin), Vigel (Protocol), Bobina (Protocol) and TeslaBoy. Right now I’m getting ready to launch my brand new record label – Rezonance and the radio show, working on some new cool tracks, music videos and new sample packs for my samples label Singomakers.

What’s the meaning behind the Rezone moniker?

Around 10 years ago I had been thinking about nicknames, one of my friends told me that I shouldn’t break my head over it too much for now and offered me simply to use the title of the software which I been using at that period – Reason and I just change it a little bit to Rezone. I told him “And what about a good story, a LEGEND behind appearance of this nickname”. On that he told me “when you become famous – you will create a legend behind your nickname!” Well, now I’m already building a good reputation, many releases on top labels like Ultra Music, EMI, Toolroom, Mixmash, CR2 as well as support from top names, but I still don’t have a legend about the creation of my alias! But now I’m doing my best to make this brand “Rezone”- a legend itself!

Which part of the world do you call home?

Originally I’m from Russia, and spend a lot of time there, but I really love The Netherlands, it’s definitely a 2nd home for me, love this country.

When and how did you get involved in the electronic music world?

I’m in love with music for many years, but the first person who showed me electronic music was my cousin in 1997 or 1998. I’m always been a fan of a wide range of music genres from House, Electro and Techno to Chill Out, Hardcore, Trap and Drum & Bass.

Who were your early influencers musically?

All started with Moby, Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Scooter, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Prodigy and more.

What came first – mixing or producing?

Producing! I had been making music for a few years and only then I started to DJ, and started it only to play my own music 🙂 but when I started to DJ I was so involved and inspired, I’ve always been making live mashups and recreating tracks live while mixing and I became a big fan of it and still always try to bring something new into my gigs.

Do you see yourself more as a DJ or producer today?

In our days you can’t be a DJ if you are not a producer. The only way to realize yourself and get a real success and recognition is to make your own music and play as a DJ.

How would you describe your current style?

Ha, to be honest it’s hard to describe, as I’m always trying to add something new to my tracks, it can be a fusion of EDM with Future House, or Bass House with Trap Influences, it can be Progressive with some Tech or G-House elements…some of my fans call it Rezone House, as you don’t know what to expect, but it would definitely have Rezone recognisability.

Has your sound changed along the years?

Yes, many times. In 2007 I was making Electro House stuff (a few years before it became a mainstream), then I had a great period when I had been making more Tech House and Techno stuff, I did an official remix on Mark Knight, which has been out on Toolroom Records, later I have been more into Progressive House, then into EDM and now I’m in middle of something between experimental EDM, House and Bass music.

You’ve signed with top labels, shared the stage with elite artists and have gained the support of A-list DJs. What’s your most memorable career moment so far?

Lots of them actually, I think when Pete Tong played me for a first time on an Essential Collection, my DJ Mag gig in Macau and when I was signed to Toolroom. But I’m sure that most memorable career moment has not happened yet!

What projects do you have lined-up for the rest of 2015?

I going to visit ADE in Amsterdam again this year, some gigs, label launch, and some new awesome tracks are coming too!

Where would you like to see yourself in the months ahead?

In the lists of Spinnin and Revealed artists and on the line up of Ultra Music and Tomorrowland.

If you could choose any artist in the world, who would you like to collaborate with and why?

I think it would be Hanz Zimmer – magician, creator of creeps, Moby – I definitely want to learn a lot from him, DubFX – the best improviser, Enigma – always been very unique and mysterious, Laidback Luke (he is very inspiring person) and Natalie Portman – doesn’t matter if she’s not a DJ or producer – she is so beautiful and I want her simply to sit near me at studio 🙂

Which one track would you choose out of your own catalogue?

Rezone – Melody of my heart – back into 2010, title speaks for itself.

Who’s inspiring you this year?

Don Diablo, Eric Prydz (Pryda), Dannic, Dyro, Nom de Strip, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, KSHMR.

Who’s the greatest DJ and Producer of all time?

Frankie Wilde 🙂

What are your all time top five tracks?

Faithless – God Is A DJ

Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence

Scooter – Coldwater Canyon

Fatboy Slim – Right Here Right Now

Daft Punk – Aerodynamic:

What’s your favourite secret weapon for sets?

Always different, but yes, normally I prepare 2-3 secret weapons for every set.

Tell us something not many people know about Rezone?

Hmmm…I’m been a champion of Russia as a Basketball player, Master of sports, CEO of Singomakers Samples (Rezone’s Singomakers samples used in many tracks on Spinnin, Revealed, Size, Dim Mak and more), proud dad of twins and … I’m from Mars actually, but tssshhh, it’s a secret! 🙂

Thanks Rezone
