Kilvey

Kilvey

The Foo Fighters, Porcupine Tree, Tool & Massive Attack are all at the same party. Not the most obvious scene to imagine I know but you’re doing great so far, keep it up. James Maynard Keenan has brought his own “home brew” wine and everyone’s had a taste, Dave Grohl’s not too “Keenan” on it but has had a few glasses out of politeness; it’s done the job in any case and everyone’s gotten a bit pissed. The house band at the party, let’s just say it was Alice In Chains; have gone off to do a meet and greet with the VIPs and some of the guys from each band have wandered up onto stage and started to jam. The sound now in your head is probably something that is truly rocking with a hint of aggression yet dynamic and epic – exactly what Kilvey would like to achieve on a regular basis.

Kilvey (pronounced Kil-Vay as in Hay) is the music of Phil Humphreys, a guitarist, singer and occasional producer from Neath, South Wales. Clinging on to his 20s in tremendous fashion, Phil has yet to concede to the fact that making a career out of music is virtually impossible in today’s fragile climate, and probably never will. It is that stubborn reason that led him to spend the last few years working at a local recording studio, honing valuable production skills (at least for himself) whilst quietly building a catalogue of songs instead of previous musical attempts, where he had opted for “easy money” working in call centres and supermarkets to fund his habit. After having a few years of success with his former band, being signed and experiencing all that comes with that title (recording with top producers, tours of the UK, Europe and some major festival appearances), Phil is now ready to start again and put his feet firmly back on the music industry ladder.

Unable to play the drums (unachieved life goal #14), Phil brought in former band mate Gareth Hunt (now of Buffalo Summer fame) to record four singles. Deciding an EP or LP was premature for a band that currently has 1 official member and a slither of fans, the singles are planned to be released digitally over the course of 2014 and Phil is currently forming a live band to start playing UK shows as soon as possible.

Recorded & mixed by Phil at The Boneyard Studio, Wales and mastered by Tim Young (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Massive Attack, Manic Street Preachers, Sex Pistols < = That's why) at Metropolis Studio, London; The first single “Corner Comes Creeping” is due out on Monday 10th February. Coming out via Phil's own label (Silent Revelation Records), it will be an introduction to one of the many flavours Kilvey will have to offer. The remaining 3 singles are currently being worked on during any studio downtime Phil can get a hold of and will all be joining you later in 2014. CONTACT INFO:
