Not to be confused with the much poppier, cookie cutter Overtones, The Novatones are a hard hitting UK indie band looking for a break. Their last EP, ‘Sunday Romance’, was a great step forward on that particular quest, and now the band are back with new single ‘Daddy Didn’t Know’ to press home the point.
Rollicking fun in spite of its grim, stalker based subject matter, it’s the kind of song that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. The raw production, which gives the whole thing a close, live feel, really adds to the grit.
The structure of sung/spoken vocal, distorted electric guitars and pounding drums is not a new one of course, but the key is to take that well worn combination and mould it in your own image. If this track is anything to go by, The Novatones are just at the start of their story.
