Music Crowns Success Story: Todrick Hall

1. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again

The first time the world met Todrick Hall, he was a contestant on American Idol. Following his exit in season 8, Hall knew he needed to kick-start the next leg of his career. With that, he took to YouTube, where he began to amass a following through posting video blogs, song covers and collaborations with fellow up-and-comers.

2. Following the right trend

In 2013, Todrick’s work began to get the attention of all the right people. His video ‘Beauty and a Beat’ was seen by Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, who told him: ‘I think you’re special and that we’re meant to work together.’”

3. Getting your music seen by the masses

In 2015, Todrick began releasing his now infamous “4” videos, which saw him singing four-part harmonies and mashing up entire catalogs of work by stars like Beyonce and Rihanna. He even became friends with the likes of Taylor Swift as a result of covering her work. Using Music Crowns and his increasingly growing social platforms as means to promote his videos, Todrick quickly became a viral sensation.

4. Lights, Camera, Action!

Now, with a combined following of around 2.4 million, Todrick’s success has snowballed. He sold out his first headline tour, “Twerk du Soleil,” with shows in LA, NYC and London, had his own MTV docuseries, Todrick, became a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, choreographed for Beyonce and last year, had a starring role in Kinky Boots on Broadway.
