“Be A Weapon”: Ilenkus Unveil New Track Ahead Of Next Week’s Album Release

With today marking one week until the release of album ‘The Crossing’, Irish progressive metal quintet Ilenkus are hoping to satiate fans by offering a stream of previously unreleased track ‘Be A Weapon’, available here: https://ilenkus.bandcamp.com/track/be-a-weapon. The track comes shortly after the unveiling of their ballsy and brutal video for ‘Over The Fire, Under The Smoke’, which since it’s release on the 28th, has already clocked in over an impressive 37,000 views and can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5t6zMD0qWI.

Speaking of ‘Be A Weapon’, Josh one of the trio of vocalist/guitarists, comments “It is actually the preface to ‘Over The Fire, Under The Smoke’. Both songs were written at the same time and were originally one song called ‘Aporia’. Explaining the message behind the track he states: “It’s quite clear; to question yourself and to use your existence as a tool to achieve what you want. Not to be static, but to be a weapon.”

September 15th will see the unveiling of ‘The Crossing’, mixed by These Arms Are Snakes’ Chris Common (Chelsea Wolfe, Pelican). The opus is as crushing as it is complex, as serrated as it is subtle, the band’s three pronged vocal trident keeping the textures of Ilenkus’ sound in almost constant flux. Moments of sparkling downtime give way to rivers of crushing gloom; elsewhere, leviathan riffs wind their way in, out and around the quintet’s pulsing song structures like a complex network of roots in soil. Josh lends his insight: “We know it’s an ambitious record and therefore a bit of a gamble, but we didn’t want to make a “safe” album – we wanted to make something that we all felt passionate about and challenged us artistically.”
