Hear The ‘Rainbow’ With Babé Sila

Bringing us smoothly into pride month, Babé Sila returns with her powerful, jazz-infused, R&B single ‘Rainbow’. The London based singer made her Primavera live debut today with a performance for their online festival.

Babé said: “I wrote Rainbow about my journey to self-love and self-acceptance.” Explains Babé. “One of the most important periods in my life was when I took some time to get to know myself better and self-reflect. I learnt to prioritise my needs and appreciate my values, I developed a deep confidence in myself that was separate from my ego. In writing this song I am promising to love myself no matter what.”

‘Rainbow’ carries a potent message that love is love, and for Babé it makes a profound statement. She explains “‘Colouring my own rainbow’ is a queer hint – my love life being unconventional and not necessarily fitting into a socially accepted norm I have to explain myself a lot. In this song I intend to declare that everyone has the right to colour their own rainbow – to decide who and design how they love.”

Babé Sila began her career as part of a jazz-soul band in Budapest. Growing up in a multicultural environment and years of songwriting helped her find her own sound and find confidence in realising her very own artistic visions. From a young age, she was inspired by artists like Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Sade and Aretha Franklin. After being hailed as the “Hungarian queen of R&B” in her native country she decided to take the next step forward and started working in Berlin and New York on her collaborations before recently moving to London to establish her creative community.

Using storytelling as a way of processing emotions and preserving memories, her delicate vocals and soulful lyrics float effortlessly over head-nodding beats, deep basslines and warm chords. Her lyricism favours honesty, fragility, and plays with the duality of being soft and expressive at the same time. Her soulful creations are best enjoyed with open windows and warm breezes.
