Stanley Ray drops sophomore LP ‘Scorpio Sessions’

Stanley Ray

He’s back! A couple days ago, on October 24th, Stanley Ray dropped his sophomore LP titled ‘Scorpio Sessions‘. A more mature and sensual side of the singer is showcased this time around, with songs like ‘Love on Me’, the album’s first track and intro song ‘You and I’, and the albums’ title track ‘Scorpio Sessions’. The last time we did an article on the babyfaced songbird he was rocking baggy clothes and cross colours and portrayed a more youthful vibe. But like all of us change has to come at some point in order for us to grow up and come into our own. “This time around I definitely wanted to show a more sexy and mature side of myself” Ray explains. “I’m only 22 and I feel like I’m making a bold decision singing about the things I’m singing about, not that it’s anything new. However, I like to be more tasteful about how I go about showing my sensual side, rather than be ratchet or taking my clothes off. No shame to anyone who does that, that’s just not how I want to go about showing it.”

You also have parts of his album that may make you shed a few tears. We’re all no stranger to what’s been going on with the world for 2 years now, from the pandemic to the outrage of riots that resulted from continuous racism and police brutality twards black people. The young singer definitely had something to say, with songs like ‘Cry No More’, which explains the fear of not knowing what will happen tomorrow and how hard it is being a black boy in everyday society. Another song with an uplifting tear-jerking message would be ‘Warrior Man’, which tells the story of a black king who now wears his crown with pride and taking his power back after going through everyday struggles of being who he is as a black man. He sings and belts with great conviction, being sure to help bring the songs lyrics and message to life. Although, Ray makes it clear that he simply just wrote the song from a “black boy’s perspective” and that it doesn’t mean other races or people of both sexes can’t take some kind of meaning from the song. ‘Just Like You’ is a positive song that is meant to bring comfort to those who may be struggling and feel like they’re alone. “I wanted to let people know they’re not alone and that I used to feel the way they do. I think a lot of us are guilty of thinking and worrying about the wrong things, like the way we look, the clothes we wear, and all of our imperfections. These things that, at the end of the day, aren’t really important. All you gotta do is keep your head up and stay focused on your life goals and you too can succeed.”

Not long from now Ray promises us that the music video for his song ‘CRUSH’, the first single off of this album, will be dropping and sure enough we can’t wait to see it and he has our full support.
