The Best Bond Songs Ever

[vc_row][vc_column el_class=”intro-text”][vc_column_text]The world wakes up an infinitely less suave place as of yesterday (23rd May), when the smoothest Bond of them all, Sir Roger Moore, passed away in Switzerland yesterday. Moore’s Bond followed Sean Connery‘s inaugural stint as the smooth-talking secret agent and arguably painted the most iconic picture of him as completely unflappable but with tongue firmly in cheek.

Running parallel with each Bond movie, of course, is a specially-commissioned, unique theme song to die for. Here, Music Crowns explores a carefully picked selection of The Greatest Bond Songs of All Time.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”listicle-item”][vc_column width=”1/4″][thb_image image=”33937″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Live and Let Die

Guns ‘n’ Roses

Let us start, fittingly, with the first Bond film starring Sir Roger. An absolute barnstormer of a track, Live & Let Die is not only notable for being quite possibly the most epic piece of music Paul McCartney has ever written with its blistering orchestral break, but also for being the song that re-united the former Beatle with producer George Martin. Co-written with Linda McCartney, the track was recorded with Wings at London’s AIR Studios and reached number 2 in the United States. Check out Guns N’ Roses’ version of the song for the greatest unintentional comedy drum sound of all time.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/6D9vAItORgE”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”listicle-item”][vc_column width=”1/4″][thb_image image=”33938″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Goldfinger

Shirley Bassey

Sing “Gollldfingahhhhhhh!” to anyone, anywhere, at any time in the known universe and you will instantly be gifted a totally involuntary reflexive response of “he’s the maaan with the Midas touch!”. This is a fact. Don’t even try to dispute it. Shirley Bassey’s 1964 theme is sweeping, broody, brash, dark, ever-so-slighty silly… and, of course, is anchored by that voice. Delicious. Although, fact fans, Bond film producer Harry Saltzman despised it (and Bassey’s subsequent Bond song Diamonds Are Forever’). But there’s always one, hey?[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/6D1nK7q2i8I”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_class=”listicle-item”][vc_column width=”1/4″][thb_image image=”33939″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Skyfall

Adele

Bringing things back to the present, Adele’s 2012 theme is surely one of the finest in the Bond catalogue. Written with producer Paul Epworth, the song brings it all home by intentionally referencing – with blessing – Monty Norman’s all-pervading James Bond Theme’ after the first chorus, and for its duration maintains a sinister, noir-ish air of absolutely ominency. The first draft of the song was allegedly written in 10 minutes, although recording took a whopping 18 months to complete. Receiving critical praise pretty much across the board, ‘Skyfall’ rightfully deserves a place in the upper echelons of the Bond theme pantheon.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/q-gLRp5bSpw”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
