The Rolling Stones waive royalties on forthcoming Jo Cox memorial single

The Rolling Stones have agreed to waive royalties from sales of one of their songs re-recorded in memory of MP Jo Cox, who was murdered in June.

The single, a version of their 1969 hit ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ recorded by KT Tunstall, Cockney Rebel’s Steve Harley, Kaiser Chief Ricky Wilson and various MPs, is released on December 16th with proceeds going to the Jo Cox Foundation, a charity set up by Mrs Cox’s widower.

In addition to the Stones’ charitable gesture, Chancellor Philip Hammond has also pledged to forego VAT on sales of the single. Parliament itself has been united in showing its support in addition, with both Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn urging parliamentary members of all persuasions to buy the single.
